AEF is located in Trenton, Jones County, North Carolina. It is nestled next to a corn field in eastern North Carolina. A region known for agriculture which is the primary contributor to the states $80 Billion dollar per year ag production.
AEF is a state-of-the-art Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) which has been operating since 2003. It is the only eel farm in the US today. And is arguably the only commercial RAS used for eel grow out ever in the US.
It is a proven Danish system designed overseas by Inter-Aqua Advance for eel grow-out and imported to the US to the state of Virginia. The state of VA granted an 800-kilo harvester permit for glass eels in 1999 as outlined in the ASMFC American eel April 2000 FMP Report #36 for this facility.
The AEF was initially operated in North Carolina as the North Carolina Eel Farm (corporate filing date May 21, 2002).
